random thoughts

when kids are sick...

...everything comes to a standstill.  My daughter caught the flu last Sunday and lots of worry in our house.  Hence, I haven't really worked and I do apologize to all my portrait clients who are waiting for their images.  She is recovering nicely though and I hope to be back on track by the end of the week.  She felt so good yesterday that she set up a smurf world in the living room.  And good mother that I am, I took some pictures.

It is so pretty right now with all the leaves coming down.  Here are a few favorites from a session I had on this weekend.

Christmas Session - Victoria Portrait Photographer

The weather has been perfect for Christmas pictures.  Beautiful light and still warm temperatures.  Here are only a few images we took at the Oak Bay Marina.

This is the third year that I have been taking pictures of this young man.  All ages are fun to photograph but there is something about three year olds that makes your heart melt.

I love taking pictures of this family.  Every year, around this time, we take some family portraits with a different theme.  This year we went to the Oak Bay Marina.  Beautiful light and the best fall day we could wish for.

This is the last time for probably a long time that I take pictures of this family.  I have covered the parent's wedding, both maternities, newborn pictures and pictures throughout the first years of their children's childhood.  But they are moving away, far away that is, with an ocean between us.  I am so sad to see them go even though I know it will be a great move for them in other ways.  Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your life for a little while.  I will really miss all of you.

Below pictures are from the 9months session of their son.  He is such a cute little guy.  And I love this little cheeky look of his older sister.

ocean discovery centre

We went to the Ocean Discovery Centre in Sidney today.  If you have children, this is a very cool place to check out.  Even if you don't, it is pretty amazing.  I have never been up close and personal with an octopus, but being right in front of one, was pretty special.  My favorite aquarium was the blue one with the beautiful orange jellyfish.  Just the colors are breath taking, but watching them swim up and down is fascinating and makes for great pictures.   

 

2years old now

 I have been documenting this little girl for two years now.  I am so fortunate to be a part of her life.

Here are some more images I took at a special magical place.  I  love it when moms come well prepared with lots of interesting outfits, furniture and all the other little details.  Makes for wonderful pictures.

That was such a fun session.  The girls were supercute and I loved the outfits, wings and, most of all, the cool hats.  They were hand made by mom with so much love, effort and care.  She is so talented.

My friend Susan was in town and we took some family portraits.  Susan is a photographer in Vancouver and it must have been a different experience for her to be in front of the camera.

I am so in love with kids' eyes.  They are so big and beautiful.  I photographed a super nice family and everybody was so easygoing posing for me on this chilly but sunny afternoon.

I played around with my new 5d Mark II.  We actually had a day with some sunshine and the kids were playing outside.

a schoolday

Here are a few pages of a schoolday book I designed.  If you are interested in having a schoolday of your child documented, please let me know.  I usually pick a nice sunny day so I can photograph outside activities during schoolhours as well.  I love documenting schooldays because the kids are so involved in whatever tasks they are doing and they forget all about me.

They worked with Sculpey to make little fairies.

Here are the finished fairies ready to be baked in the oven.

They also did some water coloring.

4 cats arts studio

I am so excited to be working with Joey Simon from the 4cats arts studio on their first issue of the 4Cats Magazine which will be launched  March 1st.  The first issue includes famous artist bios (this issue will feature an interview with Vancouver entrepreneur/artist Martha Sturdy), art project ideas and also showcases the incredible work of the 4Cats students.  Art should be a part of everyones life.   

Check out their winter programs right now.  There are a variety of winter break camps and dropins for December and January.  I wish I could take some of these. :)

We didn't go far for these shots.  Just outside the house.  The light is going so quickly in the afternoon, there is no time to find locations.

I had a fun session in the park the other day.  The colours are beautiful right now, well, maybe no longer because of all the rain and the city being very efficient with the fall cleanup.  This little boy and his sister kept me on my toes.  I had a hard time keeping up with them. :)

... to photography these two cuties.  They came with lots of outfits and we had a blast changing clothes every ten minutes.  Oh, being a little girl is so much fun.
